Springfield Symphony brings savory Russian favorites to the “Comfort Food” season

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Springfield Symphony (SSO) continues its “Comfort Food” season with the classical concert, Russian Dumplings on Saturday, March 20th at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.  The program will feature the thrilling Russlan and Ludmilla Overture, followed by Tchaikovsky’s dramatic Symphony No. 5. These performances will take place at Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts.  Due to travel restrictions in Canada, Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme has been removed from both performances’ musical programming and featured guest artist Bryan Cheng will be unable to perform with the Springfield Symphony.

“The Overture to Russlan and Ludmilla has always been one of my favorite pieces. It is a true showpiece for the orchestra – fast, furious, and exciting!” said Music Director and Conductor Kyle Wiley Pickett. “Tchaikovsky’s 5th is powerful, epic, and gorgeous. There are few composers who resonate with the audience like Tchaikovsky. His symphonies are always among the most requested works – none more than the 5th. It is full of great melodies that will be familiar to all, whether or not someone is a classical music aficionado. This will be one fun concert, there’s no question about it!”.

Single tickets are currently on sale at and can be purchased until 12:00 PM on the day of the concert. Single tickets are $30 per ticket with limited availability for the 2:00 PM performance and livestream tickets start at $12 per household for the 7:30 PM performance. Season tickets are available for the afternoon performances. Join Pickett at the free LIVE event, Behind the Baton, on the Springfield Symphony Orchestra MO Facebook page. Behind the Baton provides the opportunity to meet Pickett and hear about the music that will be performed at the March 20th concert.  The Facebook Live event takes place at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 18th.
