Program and Development Manager

Location: Springfield, Missouri
Position Type: Full-Time, Exempt
Reports To: Executive Director
Benefits: Full benefits package included
Schedule: Includes some evenings and weekends

Position Overview:

The Springfield Symphony Orchestra is seeking a highly organized and enthusiastic Program and Development Manager to oversee the planning, promotion, and execution of our community engagement and outreach programs. This role also plays a vital part in the development efforts that support the sustainability and growth of these initiatives. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, excels in time management, and possesses excellent communication skills. They will work collaboratively across departments and with external partners to ensure the success of key programs and events.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Management & Marketing

  • Coordinate and promote SSO’s community and outreach programs, including:
    – Seniors at the Symphony – a monthly concert program during the SSO season designed to engage older adults in the community
    – Young People’s Concert
    – Family Series Concerts
    – Musgrave Community Balcony
  • Manage event logistics, scheduling, and communication with participants, schools, and community partners
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to increase program visibility and participation
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to create promotional materials and digital content

Development & Fundraising

  • Identify and pursue sponsorship and funding opportunities for the organization, programs, and events
  • Assist with donor cultivation and stewardship activities
  • Support grant writing and reporting related to community programs
  • Maintain accurate records of donor and sponsor engagement

Event Support & Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Gala planning team to ensure the success of the largest annual fundraising event
  • Provide logistical and administrative support for other special events as needed
  • Attend and support evening and weekend events as part of the SSO team

Administrative & Team Collaboration

  • Prepare regular reports on program outcomes and development activities
  • Utilize project management and CRM tools (e.g., Excel, Monday.com) to track progress and communication (training available)
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and staff to align program goals with the organization’s mission
Qualifications:
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast paced environment
  • Experience with or willingness to learn CRM and project management platforms
  • Passion for the arts and community engagement
Preferred Experience:
  • Background in arts administration, nonprofit management, marketing, or development
  • Experience in event planning, community outreach, or fundraising
