The Springfield Symphony Orchestra, Inc will hold auditions for the following positions in the 2026-2027 performance season:
- Principal Trombone
- Assistant Principal Violin 2
- Assistant Principal Viola
- Assistant Principal Cello
- Section Cello
- Oboe 3/English Horn
- Section Violin 2 (1-year position)
- Oboe 2 (1-year position)
- Bassoon 3/Contrabassoon (1-year position)
String auditions will be held the evening of August 26, 2026.
Brass and Woodwind auditions will be held the evening of August 27, 2026.
To receive an audition packet, please send a 1-page resume to the SSO operations manager.

To secure an audition time slot, a $40 deposit hold is required no later than August 21. Deposits may be made with a credit card by email to the operations manager or by phone at the SSO offices (417-864-6683).
-No repertoire will be given by telephone.
-The audition committee of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra reserves the right to dismiss any candidate’s resume that does not meet qualified standards.
-The SSO is a non-union per service orchestra with approximately 50 services available each season. Mileage and lodging are provided when applicable.
-Substitute auditions are accepted at anytime. To apply as a substitute, send a 1-page resume to the operations manager to receive an audition packet. At any time during the year, candidates may submit an uncut recorded video of the audition materials and email them to the operations manager. The video will be forwarded to the music director and applicable principal for consideration.
