Springfield Symphony serves up concerts of Hollywood favorites
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Springfield Symphony presents its pops concert, Hot Buttered Popcorn, on Saturday, January 30th at 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm. The orchestra will be led by music director/conductor Kyle Wiley Pickett, and will feature classic movie soundtracks such as Casablanca, The Wizard of Oz, Doctor Zhivago, and more! These performances will take place at Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts.
“I love movie music! I have often said that I think film scores have been America’s contribution to symphonic music,” said Music Director and Conductor Kyle Wiley Pickett. “There are wonderful scores from every era of music making. We have an era of films from 20 to 30 years ago that aren’t quite ‘classics’ yet, but their music is amazing such as Dances with Wolves and The Mask of Zorro. These scores are less familiar than John Williams’s scores, but are equally powerful. Of course, the best scores come from classic films, like Ben Hur, The Wizard of Oz, and The Godfather. We’re excited to perform all of these silver screen favorites and more for our Hot Buttered Popcorn performances.”
Single tickets are currently available online at www.springfieldmosymphony.org/tickets for the 2:00 pm performance only. The 7:30 pm performance of Hot Buttered Popcorn is reserved for season ticket holders and livestream access only. Livestream tickets start at $12 per household and in-person single tickets are $30 per ticket with limited availability. Season tickets are available for the matinee performances.
