Springfield Symphony announces 2017-2018 subscription season
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Springfield Symphony will take on some of history’s biggest moments during its 2017-2018 subscription season entitled Revolution. The nine concert subscription series will be performed at Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts starting on September 16, 2017 and will run through May 12, 2018.
“Our 2017-18 season will be another year of thrilling music and exciting concerts,” said Kyle Wiley Pickett, music director/conductor for the Springfield Symphony. “We chose the theme of Revolution because it offers such terrific and dramatic musical repertoire, and it gives us the opportunity to take a look at some of history’s biggest moments through a musical lens. Music played an important part in some of history’s revolutions, and new music emerged from revolutions as worlds changed and cultures shifted. We’re talking about big historical moments, and this will be a year of big music–powerful and dramatic and world-changing–and a year of remembering the revolutionaries who rose up and made history.”
Season tickets are currently on sale at the Springfield Symphony office (411 N. Sherman Pkwy). Patrons can either stop in the Symphony office or call the office at 417-864-6683 to purchase season tickets. The renewal deadline for current season ticket subscribers is Friday, June 30, 2017. New season ticket subscribers may purchase season tickets throughout the summer.
“These are exciting pieces to conduct, listen to, and play, and I think everyone’s going to be thrilled with the line-up,” said Pickett. “From Shostakovich’s stormy 5th Symphony to Tchaikovsky’s gorgeous “Sleeping Beauty” to musical selections from Broadway’s hottest ticket, “Hamilton,” it’s going to be an incredible year.
