Springfield Symphony joins forces with Springfield Public High School choirs

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Springfield Symphony is joining forces with 250 choir members from all five Springfield Public High Schools at its annual Holiday pops concert on Saturday, December 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts.

“It’s a little hard to make the case that our holiday pops concert is “Revolutionary” in the same sense of the word that most of the rest of our concerts this year are,” said Kyle Wiley Pickett, music director/conductor for the Springfield Symphony. “This concert isn’t about war or revolt or regime change….it’s just about the holiday season, when we wish each other good tidings and happiness. It’s about building snowmen and winter wonderlands and cocoa and flying reindeer and sleigh rides. It’s about gathering and remembering and reflecting and rejoicing. We’re excited to be joined by the combined choirs from Central, Glendale, Hillcrest, Kickapoo, and Parkview who will sing many of your Holiday favorites!  This is the season for jolly good cheer!”

Pre-concert music will begin at 7 p.m.  Tickets are currently on sale at the Juanita K. Hammons Hall box office, and can be purchased by calling (417) 836-7678 or online at www.missouristatetix.com.  Ticket prices range from $17 – $36 and discounts are available for students and seniors.

“In a year that has been marked by events that have brought sadness to many communities around the world, from natural disasters to terrorist attacks, perhaps it is a bold, revolutionary act to gather in joy,” said Pickett.  “Holding up the light, love, and laughter of the season is in itself an act of cheerful rebellion. Let’s throw off the darkness and embrace the giddy happiness of the season, and join together in song and celebration to lift our spirits and warm our hearts. Make a joyful noise together with us tonight, and we can make a stand for light and love.  That’s a revolution worthy of the season.”

Join Pickett at a free monthly event, Behind the Baton, at Ocean Zen on Thursday, December 7 (4117 S National Ave) for the opportunity to meet Pickett and hear about the music that will be performed at the December 9 concert.  The meet & greet begins at 5:00 p.m. and the program will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Pickett is available for any interviews or questions.  Please feel free to email him at kwpickett@gmail.com or call at (417) 837-9422.  The concert is being sponsored by Don Wessel Honda (Pops Series Presenter), CoxHealth, Hiland Dairy, Fox5/MeTV Ozarks, 105.9FM KGBX, 417 Magazine, and Digital LunchBox.
